Planking in Estonia

Well in case you've missed the headlines back home, 'Planking' is all the rage...and a social no-no following a few fatalities where people have gotten a little too carried away and fallen off very high structures.
It's the latest "internet phenomena" that's already been around for about a decade.
What it is is lying face down in a rigid manner with your hands beside you while you place yourself on...something...and imitate a...plank of wood. Awesome. So imaginative.
Anyway, this has become a major issue at schools and places of work (think back to head-spins when Break-Dancing had just come out in the 80's...what do you mean your not that old?) resulting in people getting sacked and kiddies suspended from school - and we know they must hate that.
Here are some typical "Plankers" doing their thing.
Now it's your turn. Plank away in Estonia and get some shots and post them here if your up for some exposure.
Don't be a wank - go the Plank!

Helpful iPhone apps for Estonia!

Pity the Nokia people, for they know not what they miss.
Well...sort of. But hey, if you have an iPhone in your hot little hand, the good news is there are a few new apps  that you can use while you are in Estonia.
Follow our links to iRoute, Lingopal Lite, X-Tallinn, Tallinn City Walks and Takso which are featured on our pages here. There you can learn a little bit more about what they are and how they can help you.
Best of all, all the apps are FREE! Go to 'App Store' situated in the menu of your phone, hit 'Search' at the bottom of the screen, type 'Estonia' into the info bar at the top of the screen, then select the highlighted apps we have mentioned here. So easy. - sr

Cut Copy in Estonia

It's amazing what you pick up when you pay attention. So imagine my suprise when I saw Cut Copy playing Tallinn in facebook. Dread.
Anyway they are and it should be cool. Never got the chance to catch them in Oz so seeing them here should be novel to say the least. Never heard a bad thing about them either, which always helps when handing over the dosh to see someone play.
They are playing two dates: 14-15th of March next year @ Rock Cafe in Tallinn so there is a bit of a wait, though tickets are on sale now through FBI.
Go to the 'Events' page here for more details - SR.

Kylie Minogue in Estonia !!! OMG OMG OMG.

She's coming to Estonia for the first time.
On the 9th of February, 2011 for one night only, she's bringing her 'Aphrodite' tour to you, direct from Oz.
If you haven't seen her before, don't blow it this time especially seeing as though it's in such a unique place like the Saku Suurhallis (Saku Bighall) - and yes, the tongue is firmly in the cheek with that comment.
But all funnies aside, the 'Kyles' puts on a great show every time. We can't think of better way to waste money.
Check out the info in the 'Events' page.

Surfing in Estonia? Well, it's possible....technically.

A quick look through YouTube has yeilded the answer to a burning question: is it possible to surf in Estonia?
Whilst some would scoff into their beers at the prospect, talk around town is that it IS possible given the right conditions. So for those of you suffering major withdrawal symptoms and can't afford a quick trip to the Canary Islands, check this video out of (kite)surfing at Ristna on the Island of Hiiumaa. Whilst this guy is strapped to a kite, bear in mind the waves are almost head high!
See, just like home!! Only with a 3/4mm+ for comfort.

Feel free to add your 2c's worth in the comments at the bottom of each page and tell your fellow Aussie in Estonia all about us!

Just a reminder as well; a dedicated website is in the making so subscribe to this blog and we will keep you posted as to when it is likely to come online.

Estonian Eiffel Tower

Hey if you want to see something out of the ordinary, head down to Hiiumaa (Estonia's second largest island) and check out Estonias Eiffel Tower - a rickety 31-metre wooden structure that was built by Jaan Alliksoo. It's been around since 2008 but the authorities want it taken down a.s.a.p.
Apparently you can go up it to get some pretty good views of the Baltic Sea, but check your travel insurance for hospital cover before you do and tread with caution. Jaans workmanship is a little questionable...
